Wedding Co-ordinator

Most of us can't afford extravagent weddings, but we can definately draw inspiration from the best in the business and the weddings they put together. Colin Cowie is a master at his vocation. This is a must visit website for South African's and if you are an American, well, then you are blessed to have his company and their expertise at your disposal.
These pics are off his website - Colins Flowers
Colin's blog is another wonderful way to see what's hot and happening. You can sign up to his newsletter. I know for all the South African's out there it's all American based, but variety is the spice of life.

Inspired Decor

Gideon's Flowers and Functions are just amazing. I was looking through Wedding Inspirations online magazine and saw these pics. They really do amazing things. I couldn't find a website for them - maybe they're that good. But if you go to Wedding Inspirations online, you'll see contact details and email.

Wedding Songs

I stumbled onto this website Cream Cheese and there are some great ideas for weddings songs. I don't think we will be able to afford a DJ or live music. I do have a fantastic ipod and so I was think we could just create our own playlists. Maybe get someones little cousin or something to manage it for us and play it off our compture so random people don't mess with the ipod and computer. As drunk people tend to do.

Does anyone have any music suggestions for me?

Seating card idea continued...

In my last post I chatted about a seating card idea I saw. Here is a pic of the seating cards being written by a few different people. I think it's quite effective.

Seating Card Idea

I have two ideas here that are great for seating cards. I am on a fairly tight budget so a saying I’m getting very familiar with is “Wedding DIY”. I am quite a crafty person as it is and so doing the invitations/seating cards and bits-n-bobs is fun! It also gives me a chance to get mum involved in more than just idea and choosing things. I like having her (and the rest of the family) a part of the process as the wedding is becoming a family occasion. It's wonderful.

So I got this idea off Martha Stewarts blog. The Martha Stewart Website is also amazing. What fantastic sites.

Ok, so to my place seating idea. Get a leaf craft punch and punch out a leaf (I like the leaf as it fits into the autumn theme), then stick the leaf directly onto the ink pad (like the pics above) and then stamp a piece of card. I would do a cream place card with a brown stamp. I might try and add some orange with a ribbon again. The burnt orange in the theme is really there for a punch of colour. I quite like this stamp idea. It looks and feels quite rustic. I might stick the card onto some hessian or some handmade paper, just to make it a little "rough" around the edges.

Then another wonderful idea is to get about 5 or 6 different people to write the names of all the guests. It creates a wonderful effect with everyones different hand writing. I also got this idea off Martha Stewarts website.

My colours explained

Well, I mentioned in my past post that I looked at the meanings of my colours and well, I never said what they meant. So here's what my colours mean.

Green: Green symbolizes great intelligence, nature, spring, fertility, youth, environment, wealth, money, good luck, vigor, generosity, go, grass

Yellow: Yellow typically symbolizes sunlight, joy, happiness, earth, optimism, intelligence, idealism, wealth (gold), summer, hope, air, liberalism

Orange: It typically symbolizes Hinduism, Buddhism, happiness, energy, balance, heat, fire, enthusiasm, flamboyance, playfulness

Brown: Brown symbolizes calm, boldness, depth, natural organisms, nature, richness, rusticism, stability, tradition.

Of course I have put only the positive meanings of the colours but I am just so thrilled that they really do connect with what both George and I believe in. They represent nature, the earth and all those qualities you want to have in your marriage. Hope, happiness, playfulness, stability, joy - those are just some of my favourites.

My wedding colours!

Wow has time flown.

I've been so busy I haven't really had too much time to think about the "W" word. BUT I have made one BIG decision: the colours for the wedding. I know that as a bush wedding the surrounds do a lot of the decorating for you, so I'm going simple and bold. I LOVE colour and maybe I'll have a dash of colour in my dress. But that's a whole other story.

So my colours are: Burnt Orange, Yellow and chocolate brown. The table settings will be a combination of the three colours, I might have to bring in a bit of cream - but it depends on the type of yellow I decide to use. The flowers will be orange and yellow. Whether I am going to have more greenery with a punch of colour or mostly yellow and orange flowers with a little green - I'm not sure. I'm going to have to go to the florist and some material shops and see what looks best. But I think those colours, in the bush as the seasons are changing will look fabulous.

If anyone has any suggestions for me, I'd love you to comment.

I went onto Wikipedia to see what my colours meant. I chose the colours before know what they meant & I can't believe how appropriate they are. I am so so happy with my colours.

Where to start planning!?!

So the big question! WHERE DO YOU START WITH PLANNING?

I am not the kind of girl that has been planning her wedding since she was a little girl, I just haven’t – I don’t quite know why, but there it is. So now, I have a slight dilemma – I have NO idea what I want (apart from wanting a bush wedding). Colours? Food? Dress? Stationary? HELP! The options are limitless. My only saving grace (lets hope) is that I am a fairly decisive person.

I decided to go to The Wedding Expo www.wedding-expo.co.za at the Coca-Cola Dome in Jo’burg at the beginning of April. That was the BEST decision I could ever have made. What a fantastic show and such good value for money. I would definitely recommend it. The show is held twice a year, in April and September and I will be going again in September. I went to the April 09 show to give me a feel for what is on offer in the market before trawling the internet for hours and hours looking for ideas. Everything you want in one place at The Wedding Expo – it was truly worthwhile. AND THERE WAS A FASHION SHOW and the FREE WEDDING INSPIRATIONS MAGAZINE www.weddinginspirations.co.za.

Back to planning, in the Wedding Inspirations magazine is a Wedding Countdown and Planner (for budgeting). PERFECT, it’s exactly what I need. I have decided I am going to be using this in the coming months. This way my thoughts will be more ordered (well one can hope) and poor George will have at least some sort of ordered wedding talk – rather than my wild imagination running away with me with all the ENDLESS possibilities. It makes the planning seem less daunting and maybe I won't procastinate (an inhereant trate I have :) ). There are also some really great articles in the magazine and I’m really looking forward to the September magazine.

So the countdown says that in the 9-12 months before the wedding, Determine the type of wedding: location, theme, number of guests, formality and time of day – amongst other things. This is where I am going to start. I will get to the rest of the list later – I can’t believe how much there is to organize. But, pole-pole (slowly-slowly) as they say in Swahile. One thing at a time.
I’ll be back with a myriad of ideas to sift through!

Catch you later
